Arrival & Departure

Student Arrival

Staff supervision of students begins at 7:30 a.m. For safety reasons, no students are to arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. except for those children who are enrolled in the before school PrimeTime Program or plan to eat breakfast in the cafeteria beginning at 7:20 a.m.

The parking lot is closed each morning from 7:25 AM to 8:00 AM to ensure students' safe arrival to the campus. Adults delivering children to school should leave them off at the sidewalk in front of the school on Printwood Way. Students may also be dropped off near the Cannington Street gate after 7:30 AM. We encourage families to use the cross walk that is monitored by the Safety Patrol before and after school each day.

Infant and Preschool: Parents may drop off students at their classrooms. Following drop-off, parents should leave campus.
Grades Kindergarten-5: All students are to go directly to the cafeteria area for breakfast beginning at 7:20 AM or to the morning assembly area beginning at 7:25 AM. Students are not to go to their classrooms, unless it is raining or they are directed to do so by staff. Supervision is provided in the cafeteria area, the blacktop area, and various high traffic points on campus.

Walking

Our Safety Patrol helps provide safe travel to and from school. We encourage students to use the sidewalks and avoid walking through the parking lot. Cross the street using crosswalks or at intersections where pedestrians are more clearly visible to motorists.

Bicycles

The San Diego Police Department requests that only students in grades four and above ride bicycles to school. Although the school has designated an area adjacent to the lunch court for students to park bicycles, the San Diego Unified School District is not responsible for theft, damage, or loss of use to any bicycle, equipment or article left in or around this area. All such risk is assumed by the student.

All bicycles should have locks and licenses. Students are urged to secure their bicycles in an appropriate manner by using a quality lock and chain or other devices.

Helmets are required by California law. Students not wearing helmets may lose the privilege of parking a bike on school grounds. As defined in Vehicle Code Section 21212, any person under 18 years of age must wear a properly fitted and fastened helmet when riding a bicycle, scooter, skateboard, or when wearing in-line or roller skates. Helmets must also meet the standards of either the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) or the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

Student Departure

Students are dismissed promptly at 2:00 p.m. (12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and modified days) Students are expected to leave campus immediately upon dismissal, unless they are enrolled in the after school PrimeTime Program. Students who ride the bus to and from school will leave shortly after dismissal.

Please meet your child in the front of the school or at the Cannington Street gate. The front curb is painted green to indicate 15 minute stopping. White curbs indicate for 3 minute zones for passenger loading. Signs are posted to assist you. The parking lot is locked between the hours of 1:45 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. Do not park or stop in the bus loading area. Teach your child(ren) to cross the street without a crossing guard present. Schooll staff is assigned to supervise students at various high traffic points after school. Our primary concern is for the health and safety of your children.

Specific dismissal procedures vary by grade level, as indicated below:

Kindergarten: Students are dismissed from the classrooms by their teacher upon seeing a responsible adult or older sibling. Students in rooms K1 and K2 are dismissed through the rear door facing the parking lot. Students in room K4 are dismissed at the front door facing the kindergarten area.
Grades 1-3: Teachers walk all students to the front entrance of school. All students must be picked up at the front entrance whether they walk home with an older sibling or are picked up by an adult.
Grades 4-5: Teachers walk all students to the front entrance of school to exit the campus. Students responsible for a younger sibling are expected to meet at the front of school or Kindergarten room and then promptly head home.
PrimeTime Extended Day Program Students: All PrimeTime Program students in grades K-5 are dismissed by their classroom teacher near the front of the school and proceed to the auditorium for check in. Kindergarten students are picked up at their classrooms by a PrimeTime staff member.
Bus Students:

All buses park in the loading/unloading zone on Cannington Street. All students riding a bus will line up next to their assigned bus and are invited to board the bus when directed by a driver or staff member.

If your child is designated as "must be met," make arrangements to arrive at the bus stop at 10 minutes prior to the scheduled stop time.

If you are more than 10 minutes late to pick up a student, please go to the front office. You may be asked for identification and/or to sign for pick-up. Please review the Visitors Policy page for additional information.
