Facilities

Opened in 1966, Lafayette Elementary School's appearance is pleasing and well groomed. Students and staff are proud of their school and contribute to its cleanliness. Quaint lawn areas and well maintained landscaping contribute to a peaceful and productive learning environment.

Providing safe and well-maintained schools is a top priority for the school district. To ensure that all classrooms and facilities are maintained in a manner that supports instruction, a scheduled maintenance program is administered by the district. Teachers have access to a centralized workroom, book room, staff-development room, a multi-purpose media room, and an action-based learning lab.

Improvements are underway with funding from Proposition S. Improvements completed include exterior paint, repairs to concrete and asphalt surfaces, upgrades to the technology infrastructure, and upgrades to the kitchen. Additional work will include removal or renovation of aging portable classrooms and gates that be locked during the day to ensure student safety and manage the flow of visitors to the campus.

Lafayette Elementary is conveniently located near the 805 freeway and West Balboa Avenue. The Safety Patrol is supervised by the San Diego Police Department and facilitates the safe crossing of students on Cannington Street as they travel to and from school . Staff supervises students as they enter and exit the campus each day.
